Softonic is undergoing a change of corporate strategy that will help us continue to offer you the largest guide to software and apps. We have big plans for the year ahead that will help us drive further innovation to continue to build great products.

For this reason our web search division will cease to operate in order to focus its resources on other business lines. This means we will no longer distribute Softonic branded toolbars and Softonic branded search offers. If you are currently using any of our search branded products, don’t worry, you will still be able to use them.

New things are coming your way this year, so be prepared to discover and enjoy great software and apps.

Today we are releasing our Software Trends report, which provides an overview of the global trends in software, based on the preferences of our users around the world. This report also covers the hottest news topics of the industry from the second semester of 2013.

The more than 1 billion downloads registered from Softonic during the last six months of 2013 are clear statement that the demand for software and apps is at an all-time high. This report contains the information on what users around the world download the most.

The report also includes a section with newsworthy topics from the sector. Inside the report you’ll find all about how Blackberry Messenger finally arrived for iOS and Android, the huge hype for GTA V, the Adobe privacy hack, and what Google is doing about YouTube comments.

We are proud to announce that we are the  No. 1 European company in global online audience and No. 34 worldwide, according to the latest data from digital measurement leader ComScore, Inc. Over the last months, our growth both in Europe and worldwide has continued to increase; as recently as October, 2013, we were ranked as the No. 2 European company and No. 36 worldwide.

Our Founder and President Tomás Diago stated: “We are pleased with both positions as they show strong growth globally. We believe Softonic is in a good position for further growth, especially in the U.S., and we are very optimistic about the future as we continue to offer the most comprehensive software selection to our users, adapting ourselves to their changing needs and current trends in the sector.”

In November, we announced that we exceeded 6 million daily software downloads worldwide – an increase of 1 million in about six months – representing more than128 million unique users each month. Almost 30 percent of these downloads came from the version of Softonic for mobile, which has seen increased traffic due to the rise of Internet navigation from mobile devices.

The prestigious European Business Awards organization has announced the names of the companies that have been awarded with the Ruban d’Honneur for the 2013-2014 edition.

This award positions Softonic within the 100 most successful European companies, and boosts the company into the final stage of the European Business Awards, competing in The Employer of the Year Award category.

The European Business Awards consist of three stages that each company needs to overcome progressively. On the first stage, the National Champions are selected. On the second stage the Ruban d’Honneur is awarded and the third and final stage consists of a one to one session with a panel of juries who decide which company wins the award on each category.

It’s not the first time Softonic is present at the final stage of these prestigious awards. On November 2010 the company was awarded as the Best European Company with a turnover of less than 60 million euros.

The winners of the 2013-2014 European Business Awards will be announced on May 27, during a gala in Athens.

Softonic always strives to think global but act local and for that reason we’ve joined the second annual Tech Gives Back campaign. We are part of a coalition of Bay Area startups working together to gather food, clothing, and cash donations for a group of nonprofit partners including Goodwill of San Francisco, San Mateo and San Francisco and Marin Food Banks.

To give our support to this charitable cause, we’ll be collecting gently used clothing and packaged food donations in our office. This is our way to give back to the communities in which we live and work.

You can follow the buzz via the hashtag #techgivesback on Social Media. We hope we can collect a great amount of clothes and food to make Tech Gives Back ’13 a true success! :)
