Google I/O is one of the main events in the world of Internet, and for hardcore Google fans this conference is the high point of the year, as it provides a forum for representatives of the Mountain View-based firm to meet face-to-face with the developers who create apps for them and the company’s key note presentation gives a public worldwide announcement of where Google is taking new products now under development.

Starting today, our news blog OnSoftware is integrated in Softonic so all our users can easily access the most complete information about software, games and apps on the same site. This change is one step further in our commitment to be the world’s most complete and updated online software guide.

Softonic has been awarded with the prestigious Europe’s 500 as one of the European companies with the biggest growth. This is an award we are especially proud of because, these prizes (given by the NPO Europe’s 500) acknowledge the work made by European companies who have experienced growth and have created jobs during this time of crisis.
Tomás Diago, our President & Founder received the award from Ingo Friedrich, Vice President of the European Parliament and Gabriel Masfurroll, President of Europe’s 500 in a ceremony that took place in the European Parliament in Brussels. Tomás has pointed out that he feels “Proud that despite the current economic crisis situation, Softonic is one of the companies in Europe with the biggest growth rate.” and he also highlighted that “We are very optimistic about the future. Our objective is to continue growing as a company and as a team.”
The ceremony included a conference that united politicians and successful businessmen. The summit created a great environment for discussion and an exchange of views that will help to eventually create a favorable setting for companies to grow in Europe.

In November 2011 we were proud to announce that Softonic had reached the 4 million daily downloads mark. Today only 15 months later, Softonic has surpassed the 5 million daily downloads mark! From this record breaking milestone, 1 million downloads come from our Mobile version of the site, which includes smartphone and tablet users.
When it comes to users of Softonic in English, the programs with the most recorded downloads for Windows platform are the KM Player, Format Factory and VLC Media Player. This last software title is the most downloaded on the Mac platform, followed by Internet Explorer and the game GTA: San Andreas.

On Monday February 25, Barcelona will host for the eighth consecutive year, the largest global mobile communication event.
More than 70,000 participants from two hundred countries. More than fifteen hundred companies, an area of 94,000 square meters, two hundred eighty speakers in forty conference sessions and official delegations from more than one hundred forty countries will make the city of Barcelona the global focus of the mobile environment.

As part of a tour visit to featured technology companies in Silicon Valley organized by La Caixa, the Softonic San Francisco office has received seventeen Spanish Entrepreneurs. They were selected through the award EmprendedorXXI (Entrepreneur XXI), a true reference among entrepreneurs in Spain awarded by the financial institution and the Empresa Nacional de Inovación (ENISA).
The trip agenda included visits to other companies in the technology sector, such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, NASA and Pfizer, among others, as well as prestigious institutions such as Stanford University.
The goal of this trip to Silicon Valley, considered the world’s capital of innovation for entrepreneurs, was to make market research, analyze commercial opportunities and to get to know a unique ecosystem in the world. It was also an opportunity to have access to leading people and businesses in the area.
The entrepreneurs met with other Spaniards who live in the USA, with whom they shared lectures and networking events. They also got the opportunity to visit directors with an extensive professional experience in the USA; such as Joaquim Trias, who has led four of his companies into NASDAQ, Jaume Pons, one of the vice-presidents at Pfizer and our CEO in the United States Santiago Arañó. He has declared that “this visit is very satisfactory for the Softonic team in San Francisco, since it confirms that after four years in the country, we are a success model among companies in Silicon Valley.” Arañó also highlighted that “Softonic’s audience in the United States has practically doubled during 2012” and added “we will continue working towards becoming the audience leaders in our sector in 2013.”

It has been fifteen years since a very young Tomás Diago, our current President & Founder, came up with the idea for an online file library as his final degree project; which transformed in 1997 into Shareware Intercom. The project was first developed at Intercom Online, a top Spanish internet provider at the time, until it became an independent company in the year 2000.
The world has changed a lot since 1997. Think about it, we are living in a new millennium! Everything is different, from the way we communicate with others to the how we listen to our favorite music.
